ISI picks Babbar Khalsa to lead integrated terror network, launches massive recruitment drive

New Delhi: The nefarious nexus between Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and ISI to spread terror in Punjab and border states has been exposed. While, Punjab Police is busy countering drug smuggling and drone activities, now the worry is that it is set to launch a massive recruitment drive.

The ISI is making desperate attempts to revive the Khalistan movement in Punjab and is using every tool at its disposal to achieve this. Many terrorist organizations are part of the Khalistan movement. Some of them include BKI, Khalistan Zindabad Force, Khalistan Liberation Army, Khalistan Tiger Force.

There are 41 groups in total and some of them are sympathetic towards the issue, while others take up the issue through violent means. While trying to revive a movement the ISI felt that all these groups should work under one umbrella. Therefore, he decided to let BKI play the lead role while the rest could work under its umbrella.

Intelligence Bureau officials say that the recruitment campaign can be harmed by multiple organizations working on the same issue. This can lead to potential recruits feeling confused and ultimately not joining anyone else.

BKI was chosen to lead the operation because it is the most powerful. Moreover, compared to other groups, BKI’s network is stronger both in Punjab and abroad. BKI also works closely with gangster networks that are important to the Khalistan movement. It is the gangsters who raise the funds and provide potential recruits to BKI.

BKI has been coordinating closely with gangsters for many years and hence both have learned to work together. BKI is raising funds through these gangsters and is also using people from this network to carry out terrorist attacks.

In recent times, BKI with the help of ISI has increased its drone operations in Punjab. Its purpose is to smuggle drugs and ammunition into Punjab. The money earned from the drug trade is only to raise funds for the movement.

Officials say that work on a large-scale recruitment drive has been going on for a long time. However, this campaign is not taking off, because many people in Punjab do not connect with this ideology. Even older people are fed up with the violence seen in the 1980s and have advised their children not to fall into the trap of this movement.

BKI feels that if recruitment is not being done on the basis of ideology then it can be done due to greed for money or drugs. This explains the major effort being made to smuggle drones deploying advanced technology. Some of the drones that have been spotted have been found to be using Artificial Intelligence (AI). This technology is being used to recall the drone if there is a risk of it being spotted or shot down. The use of such technology has helped BKI and ISI in saving drones from destruction.

With full charge being given to BKI, both the Punjab Police and the intelligence agencies have become helpless. Both state and central agencies are working closely with each other to deal with this threat.

Officials say that the coming days will be busy because where the Khalistan movement is concerned, ISI is exerting pressure on a large scale. The way BKI is mobilizing its forces is a cause of concern for the agencies. It has managed to activate all its resources in Pakistan, Canada, Punjab, Germany and the United Kingdom. BKI is a restricted entity in Canada, India, the European Union, Japan, Malaysia, the United States and the United Kingdom.
