A German museum has seen an unexpected increase in visitors, thanks to a pop superstar Taylor Swift,
The Hessische Landesmuseum in central Germany welcomed hundreds of additional guests over the weekend by a painting made famous for its striking resemblance to the opening of Swift’s current number one hit video. Ophelia’s fate,
fan, dubbed SwiftiesFrederick Hesser’s art nouveau portrayal of Ophelia, the tragic character from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, has been pouring out praise. In the original play, Ophelia, a young Danish noblewoman, eventually descends into madness and drowns.
Museum spokeswoman Susanne Hirschmann told German news agency dpa on Wednesday that among the new visitors was a family who came from Hamburg especially for the artwork.
Hesser’s oil-on-canvas painting presents the figure of Ophelia dressed in white and surrounded by white water lilies. The exact year of creation of the painting is not known, but experts believe it to be from around 1900.
In the opening scene of the video for the hit song “The Fate of Ophelia”, Swift slips into the role of Ophelia and becomes a living painting.
Museum director Andreas Henning told dpa that the scene bears similarities to Heuser’s work.
“We are surprised and pleased by Taylor Swift Henning said, “I used this painting from the museum as inspiration for my video.” “Certainly, this is a great opportunity to attract people to the museum who don’t know us yet.”

In a promotional video shared to Instagram, Swift, 35, is seen behind the scenes of her worldwide tour, which began in 2023 and ends in December 2024.
In the video, she says: “People love to talk about events, almost as if the pieces are falling into place, as if it just happened.
“The Eras Tour wasn’t when all the pieces fell into place. This tour was when every one of us had done a lot of work, moving inch by inch, to where we all clicked together.
“We’ve broken every single record you can break on this tour. Now all that’s left is to close the book.”
Music stars including Ed Sheeran, Sabrina Carpenter, Florence Welch and Gracie Abrams appear in the promotional video.
