Chandigarh, Oct 9 (IANS) Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Thursday said that in a major success against Pakistan’s ISI-backed terror network, Counter Intelligence Jalandhar busted the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module operated by UK-based handlers Nishan Jourian and Aadesh Jamarai on the instructions of BKI mastermind Harvinder Singh Rinda.
Police recovered 2.5 kg IED (Improvised Explosive Device)/RDX and a remote control from BKI activists Gurjinder Singh and Diwan Singh, who were arrested from Jalandhar.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the purpose of the IED was to carry out a targeted terrorist attack.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in Amritsar under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Explosive Substances Act.
Last month, DGP Yadav had chaired a state-level law and order meeting with all senior officers up to the rank of Station House Officer (SHO) to prepare a comprehensive action plan to ensure the upcoming peaceful festival season.
He gave free rein to the officers to deal fearlessly with gangsters and anti-social elements.
“Every officer from constable to SSP rank will be held accountable and no laxity will be tolerated on gangster and drug fronts,” he warned in a virtual meeting with officials on September 30.
He stressed the need for professional investigation to identify the source of the consignment and establish links to reach the “big fish”.
He directed that the seized mobile phones of notorious suppliers should be sent for forensic analysis so that the chain can be exposed and further arrests can be made.
He also asked the officials to identify the associates of the gangsters and put them behind bars.
He said, “You have full protection and support from the department. Deal with the gangsters fearlessly.”
The DGP also reiterated the government’s commitment to zero tolerance towards corruption, adding that any person, irrespective of rank, found involved in corruption will be dealt with strictly and exemplary action will be taken.
