Tumakuru (Karnataka), October 7 (IANS) An unfortunate incident was reported from Karnataka’s Tumakuru district on Tuesday, where seven members of a family were washed away while playing in the backwaters of Markonahalli reservoir. The officers provided this information.
Authorities have recovered the bodies of two victims, while one person has been rescued.
The search is on for the remaining four, including a child and a baby.
The deceased have been identified as Sazia and Arbin.
The missing persons include 45-year-old Tabassum, 44-year-old Shabana, four-year-old Mifra and one-year-old Mohib.
The rescued person has been identified as Nawaz, who is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
According to the police, all the victims were residents of BG Palya area of Tumakuru city.
They had gone to a relative’s house in Magadipalya and after lunch went to the dam to play in the backwaters.
As soon as the victims entered the water, they were swept away by the strong current.
On receiving information about the incident, police, fire brigade and emergency services personnel reached the spot and started the rescue operation.
Personnel from Huliyurdurga and Amruturu police stations are involved in the search for the missing persons.
More information is yet to be revealed regarding the incident.

According to the police, seven youths aged between 20 and 25 from Hassan village had come to Mantralayam, the temple town on the banks of the Tungabhadra, to offer prayers at the Sri Raghavendra Swamy temple.
The youth entered the river to take a holy bath, when three of them were swept away in the river current.
His friends alerted the police and local administration, who launched a search.

The victim has been identified as Mahesh from Mysuru, an autorickshaw driver, who had come for a picnic with friends near Krishna Raja Sagar area near Sarva Dharma Ashram in Srirangapatna in Mandya district.
