Chennai, October 4 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister and Senior DMK leader Durimurugan said on Saturday that the state government would not hesitate to arrest Tamilaga Vatri Kajhaghagam (TVK) President Vijay, if the carur stampede warrant was investigated, but it would not happen that there will be no arbitrary action.
Durimurugan told reporters in Vellore, “The judge was right to say that Vijay has a lack of leadership qualities. If the circumstances warrant their arrest, we will arrest them, but there will be no witch-shikar or unnecessary arrest,” Durimurugan told reporters in Vellore, because the state leaves 41 people on 27 September.
The Madras High Court has taken a difficult stand of man -made disaster and ordered a special investigation team (SIT) led by Chennai North Zone Inspector General (IG), ASRA Garg to investigate the unfortunate incident.
Following the court’s directive, the investigation record from Karur City Police Station is being taken to Chennai and will be handed over to the SIT, which marks a shift to a court-monitor, high-level inquiry from a regular inquiry to fix the accountability.
Criminal cases have already been registered against senior TV officials – General Secretary N. Anand and Joint General Secretary Nirmal Kumar – under five sections of the Indian Penal Code to negligent negligence and life.
But the court has taken a step forward, presenting difficult questions on the role of Vijay and other party organizers.
The fact is that Vijay has allegedly released Karur immediately after the deadly crush, which has been criticized for accountability and the call has been intensified.
Namakkal District Police is also preparing to seize Vijay’s campaign bus after reviewing more than two hours video footage and 30 mobile clips from the campaign rally site.
However, during a hearing, the High Court questioned the need to seize the bus, indicating that any action should be legally justified.
DMK Deputy General Secretary Kanimoji Karunanidhi reacted to the development in Chennai, saying that people should explain the court’s comment on Vijay’s leadership but expressed confidence in SIT.
“The SIT team formed by the High Court will conduct a fair and fair investigation,” he said.
The first trick of the SIT and the sharp questions of the court have indicated a decisive shock that what happened was wrong – from mob control to potential political negligence – the families and people of the victims demand clear answers and accountability.
