Guwahati, October 4 (IANS) Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam Police, who is investigating the death of prestigious singer Zubeen Garg, recorded the statements of his wife Garima Saikia Garg and sister, Palami Borthakur on Saturday.

Confirming the development, investigating officer Morami Das said: “I recorded the statements of Garima Saikia Garg and Palami Borthakur today. Since the investigation is on, I cannot make further comments at this level.”

Zubeen Garg died on September 19 in Singapore, where he went to participate in the fourth edition of the North East India Festival organized by entrepreneur Shyamakunu Mahanta and her firm.

According to primary reports, the famous singer drowned while floating in the sea. After his death, more than 60 FIRs were lodged in Assam, Siddharth Sharma, manager of Mahnta, Garg, and many others, including band members Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahant.

He was presented before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate and sent to police custody for 14 days.

Officials said that Custodial inquiry is going on that the sequence of incidents was being exposed, due to which Garg died suddenly. The SIT continues to examine the evidence, questions the witnesses, and verify the claims to find out whether negligence, laps, or deliberately playing dishonesty.

Investigators have emphasized that the investigation will “transparent and periodically”.

In a parallel step, the Governor of Assam has established a one-individual commission of one-individual investigation to examine the broader conditions around the singer’s death.
