‘No unilateral Ukraine in Alaska is not a peace deal’: Zelancesi urges European leader Trump

Web Desk, 14/08/2025

Concerned about the possible concessions for Russia, European leaders urged US President Donald Trump not to attack unilateral Ukraine peace agreement with President Vladimir Putin during their upcoming meeting in Alaska, stated by CNN.

German Chancellor Frederick Merz convened a virtual summit with Trump, Ukrainian President Volodimier Zelancesi, and many European leaders said amidst apprehensions that Putin could try to influence the US President in accepting Russia’s suited conditions.

After the virtual summit, Zelansky and German Chancellor addressed reporters in Berlin, Germany, after their meeting with CNN according to CNN with US President Donald Trump on Wednesday.

Two European diplomats, familiar with the virtual meeting, confirmed that Trump said he would push for an unconditional ceasefire in his meeting with Putin.

According to sources, Trump said that he believes that a ceasefire would be a demonstration of goodwill from Russia, and he also said that the Ukrainian region is not to interact for him.

Leaders of Ukraine, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Finland, NATO and European Union attended the virtual meeting with Trump. This was followed by another major meeting of the “alliance interested”, in which American Vice President JD Vance participated according to CNN.

After the meeting, Zelansky said that the leaders agreed to “five general principles” to exclude the “format of talks” to be held in Alaska, focusing on a ceasefire and “really reliable” security guarantee.

He said, “Everything related to Ukraine should be specially discussed with Ukraine. We should prepare a tripartite format for talks. A struggle should be a struggle, it is number one,” he said.

He said: “Security should be guaranteed, really reliable. And today, President Trump spoke of his support for this and America’s readiness.”

“Russia cannot a veto on Ukraine’s possibilities of European and NATO,” he said. “Peace talks should be combined with proper pressure on Russia.”

Zelancesi also emphasized that if no ceasefire agreement is signed on Friday, sanctions against Russia should be strengthened. (AI)
