Shapiro says he wants to live with Blue Jas

Web Desk, 13/08/2025

Blue Jais President Mark Shapiro refused to comment on the contract extension talks on Tuesday, but said that he wanted to live with the club and the team ownership has been “mutual in that will”.

Shapiro, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the team, is in the final year of its contract.

“When I think of options, I never have grass, a man of greenery,” he said in pre-game availability. “Twenty -four years in one place in Cleveland and now 10 years.

“So what is this and people who get me to work every day, it is appreciated for them, the city in which I work and the country in which I live is the driver to live here for me.”

58 -year -old Shapiro joined the club in 2015 and Signed five years of expansion in January 2021,

He questioned the evening for about 20 minutes in a rare in-season media session before the game of Blue Jais in the evening, winning 5–1 over the Chicago cub. Shapiro was directly asked whether a new deal was discussed with Rogers Communications Brass.

“Sure, yes, I mean, I think (this) is not appropriate for me to comment beyond the fact that I want to live here just,” Shapiro said. “And I can also say that the two (Executive Chairman of Rogers) Edward (Rogers) and (Chairman/CEO) Tony (Staffieri) have been mutual in that will.”

This has been the worst campaign for Canadian Major League baseball team. Blue Jais finished final in the American League East Division Standing in the previous season, but has so far enjoyed a stellar season in 2025.

Toronto leads American League Standing With a record of 70-50.

The top of the city’s other major sports franchise has changed significantly as Keith Pelé was named Chairman and CEO of Sports Group Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment last year.

MLSE is the owner of seven sports teams in the city – including NHL’s maple leafs and NBA raptors – as well as raptors enhanced the franchise. Rogers became the owner of MLSE’s majority last month After completing the $ 4.7 billion deal to get a 37.5-percent stake of rival BCE Inc.

Bill Maning, who was the chairman of MLS Club Toronto FC and Argonats of CFL, was allowed to leave about a year ago. In last May, the contract of Brendon Shahanhan, president of Maple Leafs, was not renewed, and Masai Ujiri, president of the raptors for a long time, was dismissed a few weeks later,

It is not clear whether Rogers will eventually bend Blue Jais in MLSE and what can it mean to the team’s executive structure.

“I feel grateful every single day that I draw to the Rogers Center, draw in Dunedin (Florida) (Team Complex),” said Shapiro. “I work in this role and then work with those whom I respect and care a lot.

“I think gratitude is more that I focus on it and always understand that it ends at some point.”

The Shapiro leads Blue Jais on both the business and baseball sides of the operation. He has taken care of many major projects in recent years. The team players in Florida and at Rogers Center, including significant renewal in the Vikas campus.

The team has given mixed results on the field during their tenure.

In 2016, Blue Jas Campiro and General Manager Ross Atkins arrived in the American League Championship series throughout the year on the first year.

Toronto returned to the post-season in 2020 in three wild-card round performances in four years. Blue Jas was swept away every time.

The Toronto Division can earn a bye for the series if it remains in the top-two position in al-standing. The title of the final world series of Blue Jais came in 1993.

“I think we are able to win the previous game,” Shapiro said. “Which is finally the goal.”
