Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a report that an official shot a person inside a court in a remote part of North Ontario on Thursday.
The Special Investigation Unit said that a team of investigators was going to the scene in Vapakka First Nation.
SIU spokesperson Christie Dett said in an email statement, “Preliminary information shot an person,” SIU spokesman Christie Dennet said in an email statement, saying that there will be no more details available until Friday.
The Ontario Provincial Police did not respond to the immediate remarks request.
Advocate Karen Seela said that he heard about shooting from colleagues who were described as a temporary court inside a community center.
A Dreeden, a partner of the Ontaras-based law firm, said that the witnesses described a man who went to court and appeared as a knife before shooting an officer.
“It was shocking,” Seela said, who has been practicing law in Northern Ontario for many years.
“Nothing like this has happened … for my knowledge,” he said, his colleagues and the community have been shaken.
Vepkaka Courthouse is described as a fly-in place on its website that provides low number of court services on limited dates.
