J&K Students Association writes to Rajasthan CM, demands a judicial inquiry into the oppression-inspected suicide of a student of Jammu in UD.

J&K Students Association Writes to Rajasthan CM, Seeks Judicial Probe into Harassment-Driven Suicide of Jammu Student at Udaipur College

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association wrote to Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Monday, demanding a judicial inquiry from time to time for the tragic suicide of Shweta Singh, a BDS student of the final year BDS of Jammu and Kashmir. Shweta died of suicide at Pacific Dental College and Research Center, Udaipur on the night of 24 July 2025.

In his letter addressed to the Chief Minister, the national convenor of the association, Nasir Khouhami expressed deep pain on the fact that it was described as a terrible case of institutional failure, oppression and educational exploitation, which eventually inspired Shweta to take her life. The association called the tragedy a cruel result of a corrupt educational culture that failed to protect a young woman, who traveled away from home to carry forward her dreams.

The association stated that Shweta Singh was subjected to the pressure of two years of tireless mental harassment, insults, and faculty members Naini Jain (referred to as Mahi Maam) and Bhagwat Singh (Lord Sir), which he had directly named in his handwritten suicide note. The note was discovered by students and operated on social media for fear that the administration could try to suppress it, constant harassment, bribe demands and a rigorous picture of educational victims. Shweta alleged that the students who did not bribe, intentionally failed, the examination was denied, and was subject to the psychological crisis.

Khoomi insisted that Shweta’s examinations were blocked for more than one and a half years, her degree was deliberately returned, and was pushed into a “odd batch” and was forced to work with junior students; All strategies are allegedly used by the accused faculty to break his spirit and withdraw money. In her note, Shweta wrote: “They kept sucking the blood of those who did not pay. I no longer have the strength to bear it … Bhagwat should be in permanent jail … I just wanted to be free.”

There was a series of equally disturbing failures and insensitivity that was after his death. His roommate allegedly informed the officials around 11:00 pm of the incident, but no college officials, warden, or emergency medical assistance. Students were left to take their body under six floors. This room remained untouched and remained unheard of for hours, causing important evidence to be exposed to contamination or destruction. According to the association, it was only after a large -scale student protests that the authorities acknowledged the existence of the suicide note and went to file a case.

Khoomi said that the FIR was filed in the case only three days later after Shweta’s unhappy parents arrived and involved in protest. The surprising thing is that the FIR failed to mention the full names and designations of the accused; One step association believes that there was a deliberate attempt to dilute the case and mold the responsible people. He said the students talking to the police or media were allegedly harassed by college officials, warning that their degree would be withdrawn, and their parents were contacted and the silence was pressurized, he said.

The association expressed displeasure that despite such serious allegations and a clear suicide note, no arrests have been made. Since the case relates to suicide, which is a cognizable, non-bailable offense with rigorous imprisonment for ten years, the lack of immediate arrest is unacceptable, the association said. This described the action to expel the accused faculty members of the college as “cosmetic damage control”.

Highlighting the systemic issues within private dental colleges, the association said that Shweta’s case reflects a thoroughly surrounded pattern of corruption and misuse, where students are pushed into the academic organ, refusing to progress, and is subject to psychological condolences, especially when they refuse to pay a bribe. It was emphasized that Shweta’s death has now created an atmosphere of fear among hundreds of Jammu and Kashmir students studying in Rajasthan, many of whom are now afraid to speak, fear that they may be the next victim.

Khoomi urged the Chief Minister of Rajasthan to ensure immediate arrest and custody of Naini Jain and Bhagwat Singh, and order a judicial inquiry from time to time under the leadership of a retired High Court judge. He also called for strict legal action against the college officials who delayed filing the FIR, destroyed or tampered with evidence, and scared the witnesses. He also requested safety for students who have demanded the creation of a regulatory mechanism to prevent such harassment and educational exploitation in private colleges across the state. (KDC)
