Revenge robbery? Local people reported theft in Budgam village after destroying wild cannabis

Budgam, July 26, KDC: In a troubled incident from Ganjibagh village in Chadura area of Budgam district of Central Kashmir, unknown thieves targeted several houses during the night, including a significant amount of gold ornaments with valuable goods.

Reports reaching the news agency Kashmir.com states that GH’s son Gulzar Ahmed Gani is among the affected people. Mohammed, whose house was robbed of a large amount of gold jewelery. Other houses, including Hilal Ahmed Pal, include GH’s sons. Mohammad Pal was also allegedly instigated during the same night. All the victims are residents of Ganjibagh.

According to local people, the incident can be linked to community action recently against illegal activities in the region. The villagers had recently destroyed the cultivation of wild cannabis (bang), which was suspected to be connected to the drug pedaling network. It is believed that theft may be a vengeance by those involved in illegal trade.

The incident has caused panic in the village, in which the residents have urged the police to initiate a fiery investigation and increase the night patrolling to prevent such crimes.

A police officer confirmed the incident to Kashmir.com and said that an FIR has been lodged. “Recently it is ahead of time to connect the theft with Cannabis Crackdown. A police team is on the spot to find out the facts. Further information will be shared after proceeding in the investigation,” the official said. (KDC)
