The Supreme Court has decided to acquit 12 accused in 2006 Mumbai train blasts

Web Desk, 24/07/2025

The Supreme Court on Thursday acquitted the Bombay High Court verdict in connection with the 2006 Mumbai train blasts.

Justice Mm Sundaresh and N. A bench of Kotiswar Singh clarified that the stay order would not have affected the release of accused persons from jail.

On July 21, the Bombay High Court verdict came to the apex court on a petition filed by the Maharashtra government after the Bombay High Court verdict on July 21 to acquit twelve persons in 2006 train blasts.

During the hearing, India’s Solicitor General (SGI) Tushar Mehta introduced to Maharashtra, said that other cases affecting some of the conclusions of the said decision will be influenced by other cases affecting the affecting the Angry Crime Act (MCOCA) of Maharashtra Control.

He also said that other accused people booked in crimes related to MCOCA can use the said decision to get relief in their matters.

The SGI also informed the apex-court bench that it did not want the accused in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts, who have been released from jail, should be sent back.

After hearing of the submission, the apex court, clarifying the Bombay High Court’s decision, clarified that the accused would not affect the release of the individuals.

Additionally, the apex court also issued notices to all the accused persons who were demanding a reaction to Maharashtra’s plea against the Bombay High Court’s decision to acquit them.

The High Court acquitted twelve accused persons on Monday, given that the anti -Maharashtra anti -terrorism squad (ATS) had failed to prove crimes beyond a proper doubt.

To do this, the High Court on September 2015 separated a court verdict of the Organized Crime Act of Maharashtra Control (MCOCA), which sentenced him to five of the 12 accused persons and sentenced the remaining seven to life. (AI)
