Bangladesh: 19 killed, more than 100 injured in Dhaka jet accident

The Daily Star reported that at least nineteen people were killed and more than 100 others were injured after crashed in a milestone school and college in the Uttara area of Dhaka on Monday.

Another victim died after being brought to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, who took the toll of the nineteen’s confirmed death. Dr. Abhijeet told the Daily Star that more than 50 burnt victims had come for treatment.
The Daily Star reported that a student of class VI was also brought dead to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital, which was said by the head of burn and plastic surgery in the hospital.
“After providing first aid, about 60 injured were sent to the Burn Institute, while receiving treatment here with 25 minor injuries,” Dr. of Uttara Hospital. Bazalur said.
MD Naseeruddin, director of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said, “We have 30 beds in the emergency department. As they fill quickly, we are sending some patients to other departments,” according to the Daily Star.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the aircraft, identified as ‘F-7 BGI’ training jet, shut down around 1:06 PM (local time). After moments, it crashed into the school premises and burst into flames.
The accident caused large -scale fire and widespread nervousness as the rescue scenes showed school and emergency teams to run thick black smoke running to empty the injured. Firefighting personnel and Air Force officials quickly launched a rescue operation which is still going on.
Bangladesh Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus expressed deep grief over the tragic Air Force jet accident, called it a moment of “deep pain for the nation”.
In a statement posted on X, Yuns said, “I express my deep grief and sorrow, which is today on the tragic incident of casualties caused by an accident of Bangladesh Air Force F -7 BGI training aircraft in the Milestone School and College campus in the Diabergari area of the capital.”

He said, “The Air Force, students, parents, teachers and milestone school and college staff, along with others affected by this accident, have been damaged, it is irreparable. It is a moment of deep pain for the nation,” he said.
Yunus also directed hospitals and concerned departments to pay full attention to the injured. “I pray for early recovery of the injured and to address the situation with direct priority to all concerned officials, including hospitals. The government will take necessary measures to investigate and ensure all forms of assistance.”
Fire service teams quickly reached the site, and the video from the scene showed rescue personnel, thick black smoke over school, and nervous students were taken to security.

Earlier, Lima Khanam, an officer of the Fire Service Central Control Room, confirmed the death of a person. BDNews24 told him, “The training aircraft crashed at the Mlstone School and College in Diaber. Our team recovered a body. The Air Force has saved four people from injuries and has taken them.”
A school spokesperson told BDNews24 that the jet fell directly near the main gate, while the students were participating in classes. “The aircraft fell at the gate and crashed nearby. A class was in session where the plane crashed. The injured are being taken out one by one.” (AI)
