The Ford 694,000 is recalling more than Bronco Sports and Escape vehicles as fuel injector can crack and leaked, causing fire.
If the fuel is leaked inside the engine compartment and has a warm engine or exhaust component, it may increase the risk of fire.
Recall equipped some 2021-2024 Bronco Sport and 2020-2022 escape vehicles with 1.5L engines.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford has been looking at the fuel injector issue since 2022. The company’s Field Review Committee approved recall in November 2022, March 2024 and March 2025, during which it updated the software.
Ford has continued investigating the issue. As part of the ongoing process, the automaker witnessed the rust as a contribution factor to fuel the crack of the injector between April and May 2025.
Ford identified the injector cracking on eight vehicles, which experience fire. Engine control software was not updated in six of the vehicles. The automaker is not aware of any injury related to the fire.
Earlier this month, Ford’s Field Review Committee decided to update some vehicles for free until a final measure is available to update its engine control software for free.
A letter informing the vehicle owners of security risk is expected to be matched on August 18. A second letter will be sent after the final measures are available. Vehicle owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 25s76.
