Biidaasige Park in Toronto Port Lands opens as part of weekend-long festival

As Port Lands Community in Toronto Continues a massive changeBiidaasige Park is now officially open to the public on the banks of the new mouth of the Dawn River.

As part of the newly constructed Ookwemin Minising Island, located in the south -east corner of cherry and commissioners, the first phase of Biidaasige Park is about 50 acres. Biidaasige is declared as ‘bee-dav-sih-g’ and means that ‘sunlight shines towards us’ in Anishinaabemowin.

The overall push for more green space in the port and port land has been going on for the last two decades.

“It is the largest civil engineering project in North America and now is my favorite place in the city of Toronto,” said Krace, a former Toronto councilor and chief spokesperson of Waterfront Toronto.

“Finally, it will be a home of 15,000 people … 3,000 people will work here, but this new island anchored around the water edge.”

Toronto officials pointed to many characteristics, which are built in the new park:

  • First zipline to be built in a Toronto Park
  • A large, entertaining waterplay feature including water pumping play stations
  • Large sports structures with soft ground surfaces
  • Anishinaabe, ONGWEHONWE, and Huron Dodems Animal Statues
  • Snow owl theater is a huge owl with children’s stage and performance area and next to the structure
  • Traveling and cycling path
  • Step-low area with Don River for Fishing and Birdwatching
  • Non-motorized boat slip that can be used by those who are navigating the river by kayaks and canoe
  • Don Greenway Wetlands with Birdwatching Areas
  • Two off-Lish Dog Area

On Saturday, hundreds of residents attended the park to examine the new location. People praised the design elements.

“I like they use natural resources and do not use plastic,” 12 -year -old Keen told Citigen
