Srinagar, 15 July: PDP leader and MLA Wahid Ur Rehman Para, through a communal lens, strongly criticized the BJP for what is called “dangerous and disgusting” attempts to project Urdu language, warned that such narratives threatened the cultural and administrative fabrics of Jammu and Kashmir.
Para described Urdu as “not a symbol of any religion, but as a puls of the identity of Jammu and Kashmir”, emphasizing its historical importance in the region. “It echoes the collective memories and intimate struggles of our people for centuries. It is the language of poets, courts, revenue offices, administration and everyday life,” he said.
The PDP leader expressed concern over an order recent by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which prevented the need for basic Urdu knowledge for the candidates appearing in the Naib Tehsildar Recruitment Examination. He called the order “even more disturbing”, alleging that the judicial institutions are starting for political pressure.
Parra warned, “BJP’s protests appear to shape giving institutional reactions, which is a dangerous trend in any democracy.”
For the protection of Urdu, he said that language is not only a medium of communication, but “an incarnation of our shared heritage, administrative continuity and cultural essence that binds every region of Jammu and Kashmir together.”
