Gujarat Bridge Fall: Death toll climbs up to 15, rescue operations continue

An official said on Thursday that the decline of death in the incident of Gobira Bridge collapse in Vadodara, Gujarat has increased to 15 and the recovery of bodies.

The official further stated that the rescue operation is going on as four people are missing.

A part of the Gambhir Bridge connecting Vadodara and Anand fell a day earlier and fell into the Mahisagar river.

Vadodara Collector Anil Dhamelia told reporters, “Death toll today stands at 3 and 15 with the recovery of bodies. Four people are missing. National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Forces are operating up to 4 km below.

On the truck hanging from the bridge, he said, “This is an empty tanker. If we move it, it can fall. The tanker is going on the process of stabilizing because a rescue operation is running there under the bridge,” he told reporters after going to the site.

Collector and other local administration officials are stocking and stocking relief and rescue operations here since yesterday.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is conducting rescue and relief operations on the second day of the incident.

Vadodara Superintendent of Police (SP) Rohan Anand said on Wednesday that a 10-15 meter slab collapsed in the middle of the bridge. Two trucks, two pickup vans, and a rickshaw fell into the river, while two vehicles remained stranded on the bridge.

He said that nine people have been rescued, five of them have been sent to SSG Hospital. He said, “None of the people who have been rescued are important,” they said a day ago.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from Prime Minister National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next family members of the deceased in the collapse of the bridge. The injured will be given Rs 50,000.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of those who died and Rs 50,000 for the injured. (AI)
