Traffic advisor issued for smooth conduct of Amarnath Yatra

Web Desk, 01/07/2025

Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police on Tuesday issued a comprehensive traffic advisor for July 2, 2025, with Shri Amarnath ji Yatra and the road position with the Jammu -Srinagar National Highway (NH -44).

Authorities reported a slow vehicle movement due to the breakdown of three heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) between 30 June and 1 July and banned single-lane traffic at Nashri-dalwas and Marog-Kishtwari Pathar Stretch.

ID compulsory post cut-off timing

After cut-off timing from Jammu and Udampur, passengers of Rarey, Katra, Udampur, Patnitop, Doda and Ramban have been asked to take the valid photo identity to the convenience of smooth movement.

Recommended day trip

Passengers and operators of light motor vehicle (LMV) are advised to travel during the daylight on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, especially due to the risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.

Guidelines for goods and defective carriers

The perishable items or the goods carrier who transport livestock is advised to follow the traffic advice issued by the traffic police. In some parts, due to narrow streets and poor road conditions, vehicles should be properly loaded, roadworth, and sufficient fuel for travel.

Fruit producers and load carriers from the valley to Jammu should ensure that vehicles are parked and loaded at the points specified between Nausag Tunnel and Levadura before 9:00 pm.

Dhar road access for specific HMV

Only 6 or 10 tires HMV will be allowed to use the Dhar Road route.

Traffic plan for July 2

Under favorable weather and road conditions, Sanji convoy, LMVs, private cars, and passenger vehicles will be allowed from NH-44-Jammu to both Srinagar and vice versa. However, the HMV movement will continue in alternative days, and they will be approved only after coordination between traffic control units (TCU) in Jammu, Srinagar and Ramban.

Cut-off timing for LMVS/passenger vehicles (2 July):

Nagota (Jammu) to Srinagar: 6:00 am to 12:00 pm

Jakheni (Udhampur) to Srinagar: 7:00 am to 1:00 pm

Jammu to Kajigund: 11:30 pm to 2:00 pm

No vehicle will be allowed before or after the specified cut-off timing.

Heavy motor vehicle (HMV)

HMVS will be allowed from Jakhani (Udhampur) towards Srinagar on the basis of real -time traffic and weather conditions. No HMV will be allowed to leave after 7:00 pm. Coordination between TCU Udhampur and TCU Ramban will be ensured.

To ensure the smooth transit of essential commodities, the UT administration has instructed all fuel tankers, LPG carriers, FCI vehicles and empty trucks up to 10 tires, which are not NH -44, to return to Jammu via Mughal Road.

Updates on alternative routes:

Kishtwar-Sinthan-nantnag road (NH-244):

Under NHIDCL and good weather clearance, LMVs and high power small vehicles (HPSVs) will be allowed from both directions between 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Parana to Anantnag) and 9:00 AM to 3:00 AM (Daksum to Kistwar). No HMV, except the designated HPSV, will not be allowed according to recent SDM orders.

Mughal Road:

With the withdrawal from GREF, LMVs and private vehicles will be allowed in both directions on the Mughal Road. According to the order of the District Magistrate, the local livestock-carried HMV (up to 6 tires) will be allowed from Poonach to Shopian between 6:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Public Advisor:

The general public is advised to contact the following traffic control units and confirm the condition of the road before the journey:
