5-PM Modi to address the parliamentes of Ghana, Namibia, Trinidad and Tobago during the nation's visit: MEA

Beyond Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to 5-nation, senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs said that Prime Minister Ghana, Namibia and Trinidad and Tobago will address the Parliament.

In a special briefing on Monday, Secretary (ER) Dumu Ravi said that in Ghana, the journey is taking place after 30 years.

The visit will see delegation-level talks, during which bilateral relations will be reviewed, and various ways to strengthen and deepen bilateral relations.

Secretary Ravi said in his comment, “The next day, the Prime Minister will address the Parliament and he will also interact with the Indian community, which is around 15,000.”

Speaking about PM Modi’s visit to Namibia, Secretary Ravi said, “The Prime Minister will visit Namibia on July 9, and this journey is also important. It is coming after 27 years.”

He said, “The delegation-level talks will be discussed each, and he will also address Parliament. The substance of the relationship, again, as you know, has a very long relationship between India and Namibia.

Nina Malhotra, Secretary (South) gave information on PM Modi’s visit to Trinidad and Tobago.

In his comment, he said that PM Modi will visit Trinidad and Tobago at the invitation of Prime Minister Kamla Prasad Bisar.

“This marks Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to T&T (Trinidad and Tobago) as Prime Minister, and is the first bilateral visit for T&T by an Indian Prime Minister since 1999.”

He said, “The journey comes at a suitable time, this year, in 2025, the country is appreciating 180 years of the arrival of Indian immigrants in Trinidad and Tobago. This shared history makes the basis of the relationship of people close and permanent people.”

Dr. Malhotra said, “In a special gesture, PM Modi will also address the joint session of Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. The visit expects to strengthen bilateral partnership in major areas and confirm our permanent relations with Caribbean.”

He called the Parliament of the PM to be a symbol of “our strong parliamentary traditions as well as a symbol of democratic values” with the PM’s address.

Sharing a novel fact, Dr. Malhotra mentioned in his comment, “The chair in Parliament, the chair of the Speaker in Parliament is gifted by India, which is again a symbolic reminder of strong democratic and parliamentary traditions between our two countries.”

PM Modi will visit five countries from July 2, during which he will attend the BRICS summit in Brazil and will hold meetings with leaders of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina and Namibia to strengthen bilateral relations. (AI)
