Chenab River flows amid heavy rains, casualties in Doda

Web Desk, 27/06/2025

Due to heavy rains in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, the water level of the Chenab river increased, causing the Baglihar hydroelectric power project overflow.

According to the official, many people lost their lives in Doda district due to rain -related incidents.

Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Sridhar Patil accepted the situation and urged people to stay away from rivers and flowing streams.

Talking to ANI, Dig Patil said, “You must have seen that the water level in the Chenab River has increased. One incident has also come in our notice in Doda district, in which some people have lost their lives. I appeal to all people not to go to the rivers … The water level is very high. Do not put themselves at risk.”

On Wednesday, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued a person who was trapped in the Tawi River in Jammu, after heavy rains overnight, which increased the water level of the river.

The SDRF personnel landed the stairs at the accident site and rescued a person trapped in Tawi.

Meanwhile, the movement of vehicles in the form of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed in Chandrakot, which is closed due to landslides on the Meher and T2 tunnel route.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a multi-field meteorological warning of intensive rain activity and Jammu division in different parts of the country.

There is a possibility of isolated heavy rains on Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad during Eastern Uttar Pradesh during 25th to 27 June and from 27 to 30 June.
