Pahgam, May 27: A delegation of Taxi owners of Pahalgam today met here with food, civil supply and consumer affairs, information technology, transport and youth services and sports, Satish Sharma, to address the concerns of the local transport community.

The meeting focused on long -lasting issues affecting taxi operators in the popular tourist destination.

During the conversation, taxi operators presented a wide charter of demands, highlighting the major challenges facing the sector. These included insufficient road infrastructure, limited access to seasonal transport permits, issues related to route rationalization, requirement of better parking facilities and streamlining regulatory compliance.

The delegation stressed that taxi services play an important role in Pahalgam’s tourism-powered economy. He called for more support from the government to ensure smooth and efficient operations, especially during the Peak Tourist season.

The minister acknowledged the important role of taxi operators in facilitating tourism and local livelihood. He said, “The concerns raised by the taxi owners are valid and immediately noticeable. We are committed to strengthening the transport ecosystem in tourism areas such as Pahgam, which are important for the economy of the region,” he said.

The minister assured the delegation that their demands would be sent to the concerned departments from time to time for action. He expressed readiness to organize follow -up meetings to monitor progress on the issues raised.

As part of his visit, the minister also held a detailed review meeting with Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Anantnag and other senior officials.

The meeting focused on improvement in service distribution mechanisms for driving testing and vehicle fitness inspection.

The minister directed Arto to find out the feasibility of residents and commercial vehicle owners locally to operate such services to reduce travel and delay.

The minister said, “It aims to bring services close to people, ensure transparency and reduce bureaucracy obstacles.” He emphasized the importance of strengthening digital services and integrating transport facilities with comprehensive IT initiatives under Digital India Mission.

The minister also interacted with tourists from various states including Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, who are visiting Pahalgam. He inquired about his experience and assured him of all the expected facilities, safety and support from the administration.

The minister confirmed the government’s commitment to promote Pahalgam as a safe, accessible and tourism -friendly destination.

Satish Sharma also visited Gauri Shankar Temple Pahgam and prayed for the welfare of all citizens of UT and the country. He also prayed to the martyrs for eternal peace who have sacrificed the highest sacrifice for the protection of the nation.
