People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehboba Mufti said on Tuesday that the war was not even a “final option”, given that India was a nuclear power. He said that the central government should have sent a multi-faceted delegation first after the Pahalgam attack to convey the country’s ordinance.
“What is the Government of India doing today- sending delegation to different countries- it should have been done earlier to raise awareness in other countries what has happened and what can be done. War is not an option, not even a final option, when you have an atomic power,” said former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mufti said that this war was not between citizens, but between two countries. He suggested that conflict could be resolved by political intervention and diplomacy.
“The government should do many things, because this is not our war. It is between the two countries – the thing that could be resolved by political intervention and diplomacy – where a knife was needed, you kept the sword out. What to achieve from this?” He asked.
He further stated that both countries need to understand that war is not a solution because it only brings destruction, while people’s lives are affected in border areas.
“I hope both countries understand that war is not a solution. The war brings destruction, and it only increases the media TRP. The life of the people living in the border areas, especially from J&K, is destroyed,” said Mufti.
“We lost 27-28 people in Pahgam, and then we lost more people. Many houses were destroyed, and our city, Ponch has been destroyed. Children and women have been killed, and those terrorists involved in Pahgam have yet to be caught. What we have achieved?” He said.
Earlier, Mufti welcomed the Central Government’s decision to send an all-party delegation to major global capitals to abstinate various countries on recent Indo-Pakistan tension. He said that diplomatic outreach is a good step by India in view of Operation Sindoor, but the Center should be called Parliament session and discussion with MPs was held. (AI)
