Srinagar, May 19, KDC: Officials said a disastrous fire broke out in the main market of Sumbal in Bandipora district of North Kashmir during the night between Sunday and Monday night, leaving at least 12 shops and four residential houses.
According to officials, the fire began around midnight, leading to immediate response from fire and emergency services, police and local residents. Fire tenders from Sumbal and Naidkhai rushed to the spot and started joint efforts to control the flames of fierce fire.
Despite sharp action, the fire spread rapidly, forcing the authorities to call in additional reinforcement from Safapora and Batwina fire stations. After several hours of intensive fire fighting, the blaze was finally brought under control.
While the exact cause of the fire is unknown, the authorities confirmed that there was no loss of life or injuries in the incident.
The police have taken cognizance of the case and started an investigation to find out the cause of the fire. (KDC)
