Chenab water level increases amid heavy rainfall

Web Desk, 02/05/2025

The river water level rose on Friday after heavy rains in Akhanur region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, IMD had from May 1 to May 6, 2025 from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Utarkhand, with a relatively light rain for light rainfall for mild rains for light rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusti winds (40-60 km/h).

Additionally, Delhi’s heavy rains in the early hours today resulted in waterlogging and traffic disruption in many areas of the national capital.

The Delhi-NCR region experienced traffic congestion as several trees were uprooted and vehicles were broken due to heavy waterlogging after the rains.

Places like Gurgaon, Delhi Airport and Minto Road have been severely submerged, resulting in significant public inconvenience.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Friday that the “Triple-Inzo Sarkar” of the Center, Delhi, and local bodies “was working harmonious to overhall the staggering infrastructure of the capital, as unmatched heavy rains had consistently highlighted waterlogging issues.

“The government and administration were vigilant continuously from 5 am. All the DCs and officers were standing on the streets … I saw three points, where there was waterlogging and traffic jam … It is a triple-engine government, where today the center, Delhi, and our local bodies are standing as a team to rain once. Monsoon, monsoon, is an alarm for the whole system.

According to the advisor, people are asked to stay indoors and avoid travel if possible. The advisor also recommends asking for shelter at a safe place and avoiding refuge under trees or near concrete floors and walls. This recommends unplugging electrical and electronic devices to prevent damage or injury and immediately to get out of water bodies and to avoid electrical operating items. (AI)
