Ottawa:
Canada said that it would start imposing 25 percent tariffs on some US auto imports from Wednesday, taking vengeance against the auto and imported parts in his country against US President Donald Trump’s levy.
“Canada has continued to respond to all unfair and inappropriate tariffs,” Finance Minister Francois-Filip Champagne said in a statement on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced measures last week.
Canadian tariffs will apply to all vehicles imported from the United States that are not corresponding to an existing North American Free Trade Treaty.
It refers to cars and light trucks that are made with less than 75 percent North American parts – about 10 percent of all vehicles sent from the United States to Canada, or about 67,000 vehicles annually.
Champagne said, “The government is strongly committed to removing these American tariffs as soon as possible, and will protect Canada workers, businesses, economy and industry.”
