The New York Times reported that the Trump administration is ready to block contracts for $ 510 million in federal grants and Brown University.
After the report, Brown Provost Frank Doyle said in an email that school could not certify information, but was aware of “disturbed rumors” about federal action against its funding. Brown is especially unsafe for any funding disruption because its finances are already stressful. The school has taken a dip in its settlement as an increase in financial aid and the salary of the employees has put pressure on its budget, an approach that it is unstable. Brown operates a medical school and school of public health that draws federal research grants.
President Donald Trump has followed colleges to handle Antisemitism after students protest after the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 after Hamas attack and attacked the Jewish state in Gaza. The crack has provoked concerns between the faculty and the students that the government is suppressing free speech and educational freedom, and damaging research and innovation.
In March, the Trump administration canceled $ 400 million in funding for Colombia and threatened $ 9 billion in grants and contracts in Harvard. Princeton said earlier this week that dozens of research grants were suspended.
The government also gave a freezing of $ 175 million in funding to the University of Pennsylvania, which allows transgender athletes to compete in women’s game citing policies.
