HYDERABAD: Amid growing discontent over the results of the recent socio-economic and caste survey, Telangana govt is considering appointing a second deputy CM, potentially from the backward classes (BC).
This move aims to address concerns regarding BC’s representation and quell opposition over the survey findings, which showed the BC population at 46.2%, sources said.
Currently, Bhatti Vikramarka, from the dalit Mala community, holds the position of deputy CM. Alongside CM A Revanth Reddy and deputy CM Bhatti, there are 10 other ministers in the cabinet, with six vacant positions yet to be filled.
In running for the post are transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar, TPCC chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud and forests and endowments minister Konda Surekha.
