An Indian woman in the United States recently took to LinkedIn to share her experience of being abruptly laid off by electric car maker Tesla. Tesla business process analyst Sneha Karnik wrote a note about her experience at the company. According to her post, she was one of 10% of Tesla employees laid off this week. She called the sudden change in her job status “upsetting and distressing” and urged others to help her find leads on her next job.
“I didn’t expect that I would write this message. I am one of the 10% of Tesla employees who were laid off today, which is really unfortunate. Yesterday’s sudden shutdown from all business platforms exacerbated my uneasiness. Confirmed “this morning,” Ms. Karnick wrote in her LinkedIn post.
Ms. Karnick revealed that her journey at Tesla began as an intern and worked her way up to become a business process analyst. “It’s frustrating and painful to find myself in this situation,” she said.
“To add insult to injury, my F1-OPT visa status gave me only 60 days to obtain a new job,” Ms. Karnick continued.
She further reached out to her LinkedIn network for support and urged others to help her find leads or job openings. “I am reaching out to my network for support as I explore opportunities for process, operations, and business analysis positions. We would be grateful if you could share any leads or job openings,” she concluded.

Ms. Karnik shared this post two days ago. Since then, it has amassed nearly 3,000 reactions and multiple comments.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s electric car maker reportedly said on Monday it would cut more than 10% of its global workforce. In an internal email accessed by electrick.com, Musk said rapid growth has led to duplication of roles in the company and that lowering costs is necessary for “the next phase of growth.”
“As we prepare the company for its next phase of growth, it is extremely important to look at all aspects of the company to reduce costs and improve productivity. As part of this effort, we conducted a thorough review of the organization and developed What I hate the most is cutting more than 10% of our workforce globally. It’s a tough decision, but it has to be done.”
