Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh):
A family of three ended their lives by consuming poison over a land ownership issue in a village in Kadapa district on Saturday, police said.
P Subba Rao (46), his wife and minor daughter consumed poison and police believe they died at their home in Kotha Madhavaram village between midnight and 3 am on Saturday.
Kadapa divisional police officer MD Sharif told PTI, “All three of them consumed the same substance. Later, Rao strangled his wife and daughter to ensure their death and then committed suicide by jumping under the train.”
Rao claimed that the revenue records of 3.1 acres of land allegedly belonging to him were changed to the ownership of someone else.
However, Sharif pointed out that when this claim was verified with the Kadapa Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO), it was determined that the land did not belong to Rao but to the government.
The police opened a case under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
According to police, the debt-ridden Rao used to weave saris and later also dabbled in real estate.
