After a marathon wait of more than two decades, residents of a housing society in Greater Noida breathed a sigh of relief as the process of registration of flats to obtain full ownership began on Wednesday. The Senior Citizens’ Association, located in Sector P-1, has more than 100 senior citizens who have been fighting for apartment ownership for 23 years.
Poonam, a resident whose views resonate with many, said the journey to full ownership seemed like an impossible challenge until Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stepped in.
Legal obstacles have plagued the unified registration process since the association’s inception in the 1990s. The fight lasted for 23 years until the courts finally ruled in favor of the residents, restoring their long-denied rights.
On Wednesday, the association began apartment registration for more than 100 of the 845 apartments. Many of these residents, mainly in their 70s and 80s, invested in these apartments before retirement, when the average price ranged between Rs 6 and 8 lakh.
Rishi Pal Singh, president of RWA Senior Citizens Association, recalled the multiple challenges faced by the association over the years, ranging from legal disputes to tax evasion issues. He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, whose timely intervention facilitated the launch of the registration process.
