Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim to vote simultaneously in general election and state polls

New Delhi:

The Election Commission today said the counting date for the Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim assembly polls has been revised to June 2. Earlier, the counting of votes in these two states will be carried out on June 4, when the general election and state polls in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh will be counted.

The counting dates for the two states were revised as the terms of their legislative assemblies ended on June 2. Therefore, the counting of votes on June 4 will result in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim not having elected assemblies. a few days. To avoid this, the polling body said it would count votes on June 2 so that the results would be clear by the end of the current parliamentary term.

However, the Election Commission has made it clear that there will be no change in the assembly election schedule in the two states. Voting for the country’s 543 Lok Sabha seats will begin on April 19. Voting will be held in seven phases. Two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh and one Assembly seat in Sikkim will go to polls in the first phase on April 19. At the same time, they will vote for their respective state governments.
