New Delhi:
Former US first lady Michelle Obama is the top choice to replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic presidential candidate, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll.
Nearly half of Democrats who voted in the poll said they would choose someone other than Biden for the U.S. presidential election.
About 48% of Democratic voters surveyed said they favored the party “finding another candidate to replace Joe Biden before the November election,” while 38% disapproved.
Only 33% of Democrats believe there will be vote shuffling.
Michelle Obama received about 20% of the vote among other options to replace Biden. Other options include Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Kamala Harris received about 15% of the vote, while 12% supported a rematch between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
Michelle Obama has been called upon multiple times to consider running for president.
Obama last month expressed deep fear about the upcoming election, saying it “haunts” her. “The fact that people think the government — ‘Well, does it really do anything?’ — and I think, ‘Oh my gosh, the government does everything for us, we can’t take this democracy for granted.’ Sometimes I worry We do this. Those are the things that keep me going,” she said.
