'We're behind you': Rishi Sunak meets King Charles after cancer diagnosis

London, UK:

King Charles III met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in person on Wednesday in front of a weekly audience for the first time since announcing he had cancer, British television channels reported.

The meeting at Buckingham Palace came on Sunday after the 75-year-old monarch attended a church service at his country residence at Sandringham in eastern England.

The King looked in good spirits, quipping “it’s all made of mirrors” after Sunak said he looked fine.

“We all support you. The whole country supports you,” Sunak said.

“I received so many wonderful messages and cards. I was in tears most of the time,” Charles said.

The King announced on February 5 that he had been diagnosed with cancer and left his home at Buckingham Palace in London shortly after to travel to Sandringham for treatment.

The diagnosis was made after “an isolated issue was noticed” and investigated while he was being treated for benign prostatic hypertrophy.

He was diagnosed just 17 months into his reign after the death of his 96-year-old mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022.
