In order to handle long-haul, wide-body international flights at the Chennai airport terminal, the authorities are preparing to build an additional boarding bridge for E aircraft (the planned type with a wingspan of less than 52 m to 65 m).

It is reported that the project is already under construction and will be put into operation in March 2024. This news has been confirmed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The moves come after international flights were seen canceled due to a shortage of air bridges.

Upcoming 3 Code E Aerobridge

According to the report, after the completion of the second phase of the terminal building project at the Chennai Airport, the authorities will bring a total of three boarding bridges that meet E-class standards. The deadline is until 2025. After the above-mentioned year, it is expected that 9 boarding bridges will be put into the E-type aircraft business, thus achieving seamless connection of international operations.

This is what the ministry says

According to details shared by daijiworld, the ministry was quoted as saying, “The new generation wide-body long-range aircraft A350 and B777 being operated by airlines and ordered in the future are Code-E aircraft and the Chennai airport can handle them.”

At the same time, the Chennai Airport terminal complex is equipped with 13 aerobridges to help business operations run smoothly.
