IndiGo veers off taxiway after landing in Delhi; runway blocked for 15 minutes

An IndiGo aircraft taking off from Amritsar deviated from the taxiway after landing at the Delhi airport on Sunday morning, causing one of the runways to be blocked for about 15 minutes.

According to the news agency, the A320 aircraft, flight number 6E 2221, rushed towards the end of runway 28/10 after missing the designated taxiway at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). PTI.

A source at the agency revealed that the runway was blocked for about 15 minutes due to the incident, affecting some flight operations. An Indigo tow truck then towed the aircraft from the end of the runway to the parking bay, the source added.

Comments from the airline on the incident are awaited.

Just a few weeks ago, IndiGo and other airlines were pulled by India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Safety (BCAS).

BCAS has slapped a fine of Rs 12 crore on IndiGo for failing to adhere to safety measures and according to a viral video, passengers were seen eating on the tarmac.

Earlier, the civil aviation ministry issued show notices to IndiGo and the Mumbai airport after a video of passengers sitting on the tarmac eating food due to flight delays went viral on social media.

“Neither Indigo nor MIAL acted proactively to anticipate the situation and make appropriate accommodations for passengers at the airport,” according to the notice.

Before the notice was issued to IndiGo, several passengers were seen rushing out of the IndiGo aircraft at the Mumbai airport, sitting on the tarmac and even eating there. Their Goa-Delhi flight was diverted and landed in Mumbai on January 14 after a long delay.
