Pakistan elections: Results announced so far for 57 seats
Independent candidates running in Pakistan’s national elections, most of whom are backed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan, won 47 of the 106 parliamentary seats in Friday’s vote count, according to broadcaster Geo News.
According to the website of the Election Commission of Pakistan, the commission has so far announced the election results for a total of 57 seats.
Elections were held for 264 of the 265 seats in the National Assembly, with a party needing 133 seats to obtain a simple majority.
Sharif’s aide Ishaq Dar said on Friday that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N), which has won at least 17 seats so far, may compete with Independent candidates form a coalition government.
“I am confident that we will form the government,” Dar said, adding that his party would also concede if any other party clearly won.
