Russian high schools will soon include nuclear war survival training in the national curriculum, Weekly newspaper the report said. The course also includes basic military training, how to use Kalashnikov assault rifles and grenades, how to perform first aid in combat and self-defense courses.

The course will instill in students an awareness of “intolerance of violence in social interactions” and teach them how to identify “dangerous phenomena in social interactions” and combat “extremist and terrorist activities.”

This comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law in August 2023 to introduce mandatory security and defense courses in schools across the country as part of national curriculum reforms.

The revised curriculum will be taught in schools from September 1, 2024.
