Avalanche hits Gulmarg in JK; trapped skier rescued

An avalanche hit the ski slopes of Gulmarg resort in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday, leaving two skiers trapped under the rubble, officials said here. They said the avalanche occurred in the late afternoon as a group of skiers were descending the slopes.

They added that two local skiers were trapped by the avalanche debris but were promptly rescued by other skiers and ski patrol personnel. Authorities on Sunday issued an avalanche warning for the hills and mountains of Kashmir, urging residents to avoid unnecessary activities for the next 24 hours.
