In an interview with German state broadcaster ARD on Sunday, President Zelensky expressed the danger of the conflict in Ukraine escalating into World War III and called on countries such as Germany and the United States to provide support.
“It seems to me that the German Chancellor (Olav Scholz) is aware of this risk,” Zelensky said, adding that if Russia attacked a NATO country it would be “the beginning of World War III.” “.
Asked if he was disappointed that Germany did not plan to deliver Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, Zelensky said he was simply disappointed that Germany did not play “the role it should have played when it first occupied Ukraine.”
Referring to the West’s weak response to Russia’s 2014 invasion of Crimea, he said it was not just a German reaction but a precursor to Moscow’s February 2022 invasion.
“This is not just an Olaf Scholz problem,” he said. ‘This concerns European leaders and the United States’
Zelensky said that in the United States, Ukraine has support from across the political divide. “There are individual Republicans who do not support Ukraine, but the vast majority of Democrats and Republicans do,” he said.
On whether Donald Trump’s presence in the White House would affect support for his country, he said U.S. policy does not depend on one person.
