Marjorie Taylor Greene urges MAGA supporters and other Americans to ‘take off political blinders’ Death of Minneapolis protester Alex Prettywarned that they were being “incited into civil war.”
“I unapologetically believe in border security and deportation Illegal alien criminal offenses, I support law enforcement,” Green wrote on Sunday, the day after the fatal shooting. “However, I also unapologetically support the Second Amendment.
“Lawfully carrying a firearm is not the same as brandishing a firearm.”
Although the video shows 37-year-old Preeti Federal officers were being filmed without weapons drawn, and the Trump administration claimed he attempted to assassinate agents in an act of “domestic terrorism.”
The incident was filmed from multiple angles, with one showing Preity being sprayed with mace and thrown to the ground while trying to help a woman who had just been sprayed with mace and fell to the ground. After being surrounded by about seven police officers, a shot was fired, followed by at least nine more, and Preeti remained motionless.
“There’s nothing wrong with peacefully protesting and videotaping legally,” Green said.
The former congresswoman asked MAGA to consider an alternative scenario in which she replaced Minnesota protesters with people who supported the Jan. 6 storming of the Capitol by Trump supporters.
“We lost our minds when we watched Biden’s FBI pursue and aggressively pursue burglaries and arrests… of peaceful J6 elements opening their doors and walking into the Capitol,” she said.
“Imaging [sic] What if one of our independent MAGA reporters, or even just a MAGA supporter, stood on the street outside a J6 person’s house while Biden’s FBI conducted law enforcement operations, burglaries, and arrests.
“Then Biden’s FBI went to the MAGA guy and filmed it all, pushed a woman who was with him to the ground, sprayed them with bear spray, and then threw the MAGA guy to the ground as the MAGA guy tried to help the woman off the ground. And then Biden’s FBI knocked the MAGA guy to the ground, disarmed the MAGA guy, and then shot him.”
“How will we respond? Both sides need to take off the political blinders. You are all being incited into civil war, but none of this is solving any of the real problems we all face, and sadly, people are dying.”
Pretty’s death is the second fatal shooting involving federal agents in Minneapolis in less than three weeks, following the Jan. 7 killing of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. Tensions and clashes have increased among demonstrators and between state and federal authorities.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said earlier Sunday that residents and his own police department have “had enough.”
“We only have 600 officers in this police department. We’re very limited. Trying to manage all this chaos in addition to trying to be a big city police department is costing us tremendously,” O’Hara told CBS Facing the whole country on Sunday.
O’Hara noted that he has not received any official information from the federal government about Saturday’s shooting. “Even when our officers initially responded to the scene, our watch commanders were not provided with the most basic information commonly seen in law enforcement shootings,” he said.
While the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was cordoned off the shooting scene Saturday by federal officials, they were allowed inside Sunday to search for witnesses.
Greene’s comments are the latest example of her breaking with MAGA orthodoxy. She was once a loyal supporter of Trump but has publicly broken with the president in recent months on issues including the Epstein dossier and foreign policy. She resigned from Congress earlier this month.
