david moyes High praise James Garner After his impressive performance in Everton’s 2-0 win nottingham forest.
Ghana returned to their old club and won comfortably at the City Stadium with a goal and an assist.
The midfielder spent a season-and-a-half on loan at Forest, helping the side win promotion to the Premier League, but there was no room for emotion as he scored one goal and set up Tierno Bari’s second after the break in a superb performance.
Moyes said: “He was fantastic. I thought his goal was fantastic. The second goal, he did a great job, he got out of a tight situation and made a great pass. Jimmy played really well.”
“I think he’s developed hugely as a person. When I came in I still saw shades of a boy and I think I see now a guy who is turning into a really good leader, starting to take on more responsibilities and growing, starting to behave like a real midfielder.
“He wants to take responsibility and is excited to play against the best. He’s faced some really good players like (Elliott) Anderson and (Morgan) Gibbs-White, so I thought he looked as good as anybody tonight.”
Garner’s contract expires at the end of the season but Moyes was relaxed, adding: “I’m comfortable. I don’t know[what the situation will be like in January]but I’m happy with the situation at the moment.”
The victory also brought more pain to their former boss Sean DycheThe team simply cannot escape the danger of relegation.
Things looked better when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 in mid-December, but three consecutive defeats have left them teetering in 17th place, just four points ahead of West Ham United who face next week.
Only Wolves have scored fewer goals than Forest in the Premier League this season, and they were restricted again.
Dyche said: “It’s disappointing. It happened to us at Fulham, where we were quite dominant statistically. Here, the statistics are very dominant, but statistics don’t win games.
“everton No ball, but they defended well. From their point of view, they scored two good goals, but from our point of view, they scored a terrible goal.
“It’s not enough to just dominate the game with the ball, you have to have the advantage of scoring goals. It’s a challenging situation to find the balance of an effective mixed game but also to play in a way that we think suits the players.
“I think we’re still figuring that out.
“A lot of passes and crosses but they weren’t in big trouble.
“We had enough possession and got into key areas and we created some moments, but not really killer moments. It’s really frustrating after being the dominant team, but goals win games and we couldn’t find it.”
