Guatemala:
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck southern Guatemala on Friday night, with authorities reporting no injuries or physical damage.
The quake struck at 11:52 p.m. (0552 GMT) at a depth of 108 kilometers, seven kilometers (four miles) off the city of Texcoco, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Guatemala’s Seismological Institute, which measured the quake at 6.0, said it was felt in the south of the country, as well as in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Antigua Guatemala, 45 kilometers southwest of the capital Guatemala City.
“No casualties or damage have been reported so far,” Civil Defense spokesman Rodolfo Garcia told reporters.
He said officials are monitoring the situation at the national level.
Due to its location at the intersection of the Caribbean and Cocos tectonic plates, Guatemala is frequently affected by earthquakes.
According to officials, 90 percent of Guatemala’s territory is vulnerable to earthquakes.
