Tarn Taran, Punjab:
A 55-year-old woman was beaten and allegedly paraded half-naked by her in-laws in Valtoha village after her son married against the wishes of the bride’s parents, police said on Saturday.
A video purportedly showing the victim being paraded emerged on social media on Friday.
Police said the incident took place on March 31, days after the victim’s son eloped with a woman and married her against her family’s wishes.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, she was alone at home when her son’s in-laws allegedly attacked her and tore off her clothes.
The victim claimed that they paraded her half-naked through the streets of the village.
The police said that five persons have been registered in the case, three of whom were identified as Kulwinder Kaur Mani, Sharanjit Singh Shanni and Gurcharan Singh.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was lodged on April 3 under sections 354 (assault or use of criminal force on woman with intent to offend her modesty), 354B (assault or use of criminal force on woman with intent to disrobe) of the Indian Penal Code Registered. 354D (stalking), 323 (intentional hurt) and 149 (unlawful assembly).
Police said no arrests have been made in the case so far.
