5 were killed by Canadian Giz vehicle, which could be 'intentionally', hitting them in a hurry

On Thursday afternoon, five Canadian Giz died after being killed by a vehicle in Markham.

The Markham Animal Service says that seven adult birds were killed at 1:30 pm on the Birchmount Avenue near the highway 407 overpass.

Five gizs were killed, while two birds, a pair were considered a pair, injured. They have been rescued and taken to a veterinarian.

At the scene, an animal service officer said that he has received information about the witness which suggests that the geese can be deliberately run down as they cross the road.

Anyone who may have seen the incident is asked to contact York Regional Police or Markham Animal Services.
