Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Wednesday inaugurate the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) temple, the first Hindu temple in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The inauguration ceremony will begin at 6 pm (IST).
This iconic stone temple is located in Abu Mureikhah, near Al Rahba near the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway.

- Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Hindu Temple or BAPS Hindu Temple is spread over an area of 27 acres.
- The temple was built on land gifted by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In 2015, he donated 13.5 acres of land for the construction of the first temple in the UAE. In 2019, he donated an additional 13.5 acres.
- The inauguration of the BAPS Hindu Temple will be celebrated through a 12-day ‘Harmony Festival’. Celebrations begin on February 10 and will run until February 21 with a series of programs and community events.
- The foundation stone of the BAPS Hindu Temple was laid in April 2019, and construction started in December of the same year.
- The cost of building the temple is estimated to be approx. 400 million UAE dirhamsAccording to reports.
