3 arrested for firing on Deputy Sarpanch in Nagpur; Police exposed the conspiracy of ‘contract killing’

Police have arrested three people for allegedly attempting to murder a 42-year-old deputy sarpanch of a village in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district, officials said. The incident took place in Mangrul village on Tuesday morning when two men riding a motorcycle shot the victim and fled, he said.

The Deputy Sarpanch suffered facial injuries and was admitted to the hospital. Umred police station officials said investigation revealed that one of the accused had given “betel nut” to two persons to kill the victim after she defeated him in the gram panchayat elections and had informed the police about his illegal liquor trade. An officer said the accused had allegedly offered Rs 4 lakh to two persons to murder the deputy sarpanch. The man who masterminded the attack and the two attackers were arrested on Wednesday and booked on charges of attempt to murder, he said.
