The best coffee machines are on standby to provide barista-quality brews from the comfort of your kitchen. For those of us who can’t go a day without a cup (or three) of coffee, a pod or bean-to-cup machine delivers your favorite lattes or a strong double espresso for a fraction of the amount you’d pay at a café.

There are lots of different models out there, ranging from machines dedicated to espresso, to coffee pod machines and high-end models with built-ins. GrinderSo it can be difficult to know where to start. Broadly speaking, there are three types of coffee machines: bean-to-cup, espresso, and coffee pod Machines.

Bean-to-cup designs grind beans, brew your coffee and generally perform steaming tasks MilkThis is often considered the best type of coffee machine. There are automatic bean-to-cup coffee machines – just press a button and they’ll do everything for you. frothing your milkThen there are manual bean-to-cup coffee machines, which require a little more work on your part to froth the milk.

Espresso machines are similar to manual bean-to-cup styles, except you pour in ground coffee initially. These devices are often much smaller than bean-to-cup machines and cost less but give you a little less control over your coffee.

When it comes to pod machines, you simply load a coffee pod, press a button and hey presto. They’re convenient, quick, and compact but lack any real options for customizing the drink of your choice (plus, often, the pods aren’t eco-friendly).

I set out to find coffee machines that offer good value rather than style over substance ,Zoe Phillimore/The Independent,

As a working mom who always has a cup of coffee on hand, I was ready to test out the best coffee machines. During testing I made several different types of coffee, including flavored drinks and even hot chocolate. All the machines below were rated based on the quality of the coffee, how easy they were to use, how much space they took up on my kitchen counter and whether they offered good value for money. You can find my full testing criteria at the bottom of this guide.
