Seven men allegedly brutally thrashed a tribal man and forced his family to transfer the land in the name of another person on suspicion of theft at a shop in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district, police said on Tuesday. Went.
Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar Singh told PTI that the police on Monday arrested the main accused, shop owner Vijay Suryavanshi, in connection with the incident that took place in Barghat town on December 29, 2023.
He said the police have recently registered a case against seven people involved in the attack under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The victim has alleged that Suryavanshi, one of the shop owners, and his associates suspected him of stealing money from the shop and locked him in a room and beat him with plastic and iron pipes, belts and sticks. The officer said.
He said the man also alleged that the accused tortured him with tongs.
A video of this brutal attack recently surfaced on social media.
Suryavanshi also allegedly forced the victim’s mother-in-law to transfer 14 acres of land in the name of another employee through a notary, the officer said.
He said that the police have started a search to nab the other six accused involved in the incident.
