New Delhi, 3 October (IANS) North East India Festival (NEIF) chief organizer Shyam Kanu Mahata filed a petition before the Supreme Court, alleging that he has been made a “sacrifice” to reduce the current public outrage made due to the death of iconic singer Zuben Garg in Singapore in connection with the death of iconic singer Zuben Garg in Singapore.
In his writ petition, the organizer of the 53-year-old festival claims that he “involves a well-calculated witch-shikar, which includes irresponsible media reporting, both prints and electronic, which try to create a false tale in relation to the alleged involvement of the petitioner in the unhappy and unfortunate demise of his very dear individual friends, Mr. Zuben Garg.
The argument states that Mahata, who was organizing a neph in Singapore from September 19-21, 2025, was not even present at the place of the unfortunate demise of the late singer “.
The petitioner claimed that on the morning of 19 September, he was captured at the Shangri-La hotel site, “, including senior officials and senior officials, including senior officials and senior officials, when they were informed about the accident, he stated that” to take care of the arrangements and receive dignitaries according to the protocol “.
According to media reports, the incident occurred, while the deceased was on a holiday activity in a boat on an island in Singapore with the singer family and friends.
According to the petition, Singapore officials are asked to conduct necessary investigations, and “no element of foul play was discovered or allegedly alleged by Singapore officials”.
The petition claimed that after the incident, Mahata became a target of public anger and online threats. They have attached examples of violent messages received on social media, including death threats such as “come home and we will make you alive” and “If you set foot in Assam, we will cut you into small pieces”.
The petition also referred to a proposal by the Association of All Assam Lawyers, urging the lawyers not to represent the accused, who “reduces the very foundation of the criminal justice system, where a fair investigation, testing and right to legal representation are placed to be pure”.
The petition has demanded a transfer of investigation to a central agency like CBI or NIA. The petition argued that the “investigating process provides the investigation process” and that several FIRs have been filed in Assam and neighboring states. Accusing the media of trial, the argument stated: “The petitioner is a victim of irresponsible reporting and electronic media, which blames the petitioner (Mahata), ‘the petitioner (Mahata), and senses the case even before a formal investigation begins.”
The petitioner has sought the protection of interim protection against further FIRs on the same reason of his life and freedom, conservation of evidence from Singapore and action.
Mahata said that continuous proceedings “despite the absence of any impure material in jurisdiction, where the alleged incident occurred, to violate the procedure of the law and violate the fundamental rights of the petitioner, especially under Article 21 of the Constitution has the right to life with fair investigation and right to testing.
