Vehicle rental company Zipcar is considering closing its UK operations Business By the end of the year, a email This is revealed in the disclosure sent to customers.

An email sent to customers revealed that the consultation is ongoing but bookings beyond December 31 are currently not allowed.
The message said Zipcar, a US-headquartered group, is “proposing to close UK operations and has today launched a formal consultation with our UK employees”.
Zipcar has more than 1,000 electric vehicles across London And a total of over 3,000 across the UK, as well as 14,000 businesses signed up for use.
Members who have paid for membership plans that extend into the next year will be reimbursed on a pro-rata basis. The firm also noted that they will be in touch with customers who already have booking plans for 2026.
“We will temporarily suspend bookings pending the outcome of this consultation,” the email sent to customers read. “This means that it will not be possible to make any new bookings after December 31, 2025.
“Although we propose to cease operations in the UK, your account will remain open until a final decision is made. This means you can still use Zipcars until 31 December 2025. No specific reason has been given for the impending closure of the UK operations. Most recently in May, the company launched a partnership with Hackney Council for a new EV Club pilot scheme.
Zipcar also operates in the US. The company has been contacted for additional comment.
